Bearded Axe

This Viking style Bearded axe is made from high carbon1084 tool steel bit which is heat treated to give a strong sharp edge.  The beard of the axe is made from mild steel to reduce the impact when in use and absorb some of the shock when it makes contact with the wood.  These parts that form the head a forge welded together and then added to the Ash wood handle.  The whole thing when complete has a light coat of Linseed oil to add a layer of protection and grip.

This axe measures approx. 3500mm from the bottom of the handle to the top of the head.  The Axe head measure 125mm from the blade to the back of the axe head and the blade is 135mm from heel to toe.  It weights just over 500g.

This axe is hand forged but is functional sharp and will be ideal for splitting kindling and small logs, although it was created primarily for display purposes.
